We believe…

…in listening before speaking

…that more heads are better than one

…in honest conversations

…that it’s possible to live longer and healthier lives

…that together we’ll come up with the answers.

The History of Bawrunga Aboriginal Medical Services (BAMS)

In 1999, CEO/Director Leavina Reid set up Bawrunga Aboriginal Medical Services (BAMS) in Bowraville, NSW. As a Non-Profit Organisation, Bawrunga is unique in that it operates in a self sustaining manner without Government Grants and gives back to the communities where it operates.

It was Leavina who spearheaded GP Superclinic Coffs Harbour to become the first Aboriginal Medical Service in Australia to win a mainstream tender for The Coffs Harbour GP Superclinic. Bawrunga Aboriginal Medical Services now operates six clinics throughout NSW, including onsite pharmacies and pathology services. Coffs Harbour GP Super Clinic was first conceived in 2011 and opened in 2014.

The organisation employs numerous Receptionists, Nurses, General Practitioners and Administrators, Coffs Harbour GP Superclinic actively recruits Indigenous Staff, and provides care to patients across Nambucca Heads, Gilgandra, Macksville, Dubbo, Gulargambone and surrounding areas.
